Apple announced that the data of its customers on the iCloud service has become possible to encrypt end-to-end encryption by activating a new function called Advanced data protection.
This type of encryption ensures that users protect their data. Data is encrypted and decrypted on the customer’s phone and encrypted before being sent to the company’s servers. That is, it is kept encrypted on the company’s servers and can only be decrypted on the client’s device.. Even if the company’s servers are hacked, the data remains encrypted and can only be decrypted on the user’s own device. Apple does not have the keys to decrypt the data
Types of data protected with end-to-end encryption include: device backups, messages, iCloud Drive, photos, notes, reminders, Safari bookmarks, wallet cards, voice memos, Siri Shortcuts, and more. Note that iCloud Mail, Contacts, and Calendar data will not be encrypted because they are needed to communicate with email, contacts, and other calendar systems.
Advanced data protection can be activated starting from the following versions: iOS 16.2, iPadOS 16.2, and macOS 13.1. After activating the function, you will be asked to select an alternative recovery method if they lose access to their Apple account. Because Apple will not have the decryption keys to recover the data.
