Discord, the popular communication application among game players, revealed an incident of data leaka that it was exposed to after hacking into the computer of a customer service employee. According to the company’s statement, the employee belongs to a “third party” that provides its services to Discord.
As a result, customer email addresses, messages exchanged with Discord technical support, and attachments sent as part of a technical support ticket were exposed to the leak, and Discord confirmed that it dealt with the incident immediately upon discovery, suspended the hacked employee account, and notified the affected users.
The leaked data may be used in phishing attacks, where scammers send fake emails or fake websites claiming to be from Discord, with the goal of obtaining sensitive personal information such as passwords, bank account numbers, or credit card information.
Therefore, we advise users affected by the accident to beware of the emails they receive in the coming days by checking the sender, the email address, the links and attachments.
