The Lastpass app revealed unusual activity on one of the cloud storage services they use. According to the application statement, an unauthorized party, exploiting the previous leak in August 2022, had access to a portion of the customers’ data.
The statement confirmed that customers’ passwords were safe and not leaked. The company did not disclose the type of data leaked recently. Lastpass has about 33 million active users per month, and last August it was hacked and leaked part of the source code.
Tech Mentor explains that leaking source code or parts of it is not dangerous to users as long as the code is safe and free of serious security flaws, there are hundreds of open source software that means that its source code is accessible to everyone and in some cases to modify it or to build other software on the same code.
If you are a Lastpass user and are looking for an alternative we nominate Bitwarden if you want to store your passwords online (cloud) or Keepassxc if you want to keep your password database on your personal computer or on a broker like “flash memory” or your cloud storage service.
