Amnesty International Canada’s digital infrastructure was hacked last October, according to the organization’s statement.
Amnesty is one of the most prominent organizations supporting human rights activists and journalists.
In its statement, the organization disclosed that it had hired Secureworks Cybersecurity, which after its investigation confirmed that there was no evidence of pirates’ access to member or donor data. Noting that a “China-sponsored or China-managed group” is likely behind the attack because of the nature of the searches, the level of development and the use of certain tools.
The security breach followed reports by the organization about the Chinese Government’s human rights violations, including concentration camps for ethnic/religious minorities.
