Apple has released security updates for older iPhone and iPad models, Including the iPhone 8 and iPad 5th generation, to address a critical zero-day vulnerability in Apple’s operating system. The vulnerability, tracked as CVE-2024-23296, could allow attackers to gain access to your information or even take control of your device.
Apple had already patched the vulnerability in newer devices in March 2024, and the new updates bring the fix to older models.
The affected devices are:
- iPhone 8
- iPhone 8 Plus
- iPhone X
- iPad 5th generation
- iPad Pro 9.7-inch
- iPad Pro 12.9-inch 1st generation
Users are urged to update to the latest version of the operating system as soon as possible. This is the third zero-day vulnerability that has been discovered and patched in Apple’s operating system in 2024.
How to update your iPhone or iPad:
- Go to Settings > General > Software Update.
- If an update is available, tap Download and Install.
- Your device will download and install the update.
- Once the update is installed, your device will restart.
