At the Pwn2Own Vancouver 2023 event, security researchers were able to hack Windows 11, Tesla, and Ubuntu Linux operating systems.
The Pwn2Own Vancouver event is held annually in Vancouver, Canada, and brings together security researchers from around the world to compete in hacking various operating systems and software. The goal is to uncover security vulnerabilities in software and hardware, and to encourage companies to fix these vulnerabilities.
Highlights of the event included:
- Windows 11 was hacked twice. One researcher used a security vulnerability in the Edge browser to gain administrative privileges on the device. Another researcher used a security vulnerability in the operating system itself to achieve the same result.
- Tesla Model 3 was hacked once. Researchers exploited a security vulnerability in the car’s infotainment system to gain administrative privileges.
- Ubuntu was hacked once. Researchers exploited a security vulnerability in the operating system to gain administrative privileges.
All security vulnerabilities discovered at this event have been fixed. We recommend that users check for software and operating system updates and make sure they are installed on their devices.
